Saturday 14th September to Thursday 3rd October 2019

A quiet week initially, pottering about doing little jobs. We went shopping wtih Mike to get some outdoor gear – not something he’s been used to owning, and I bought one or two bits and bobs too. Then on Saturday we set off bright and early (about 8 a.m.) for Scotland, with him and Wilson for company. It took nearly 12 hours but soon we were installed in a nice cottage near Gairloch for an idyllic week of fun. We managed some walking – biting off a bit more than we could chew on one occasion, but mostly very successful, and Mike’s new gear was duly christened, with plenty of peat. Wilson had a great time, getting muddy and then diving in the sea to get clean afterwards. He was exhausted every evening, but full of beans again each morning.

We did several jigsaws, had a very successful barbeque on our little portable bbq, and enjoyed some spectacular scenery and sunsets. We were all refreshed. All too soon it was over and we had to set off home again. The green steed managed all the way from Inverness to Swindon on a tank of fuel, although the passengers were getting a little nervous as dad played Clarkson bingo with the fuel stations. Then on cleaning it out the day after I found the little penknife I thought I had lost on the way home last year. Woo!

Soon it was back to normal routine, pottering about making chisel handles (out of ash that used to grow in our neighbour’s garden), and oddments like that. Yesterday I finally got round to replacing the dodgy pad wear sensor that kept triggering the warning light on the Boxster, and cleaned its air filter to restore some of the growl. The steroids haven’t been too much of an issue, just Thursday nights and maybe a bit on Fridays too, but for some reason I seem to be waking up earlier and earlier. Never mind, I’m retired, and I can sleep it off later!

That’s enough for now. TTFN …
